Alwaar de schildpadden floreren en de vogeltjes fluiten, begaven zich op een beruchte dag ook brullende apen: de jongeheren van het Heldiale dispuut Braque die traditiegetrouw allen met de auto hun opwachting maakten. Ook een hond die eruitziet alsof hij net uit de kliko is geklommen tiental vriendjes van vroeger waren aanwezig, waaronder Koen van de Bankzitters Ivo en Toto Wolff Ivo. Beide schijnbaar even welvarend als hun doppelgängers. Afijn, het schilderachtige Terheijden werd er des te mooier op. 

Toen de borrelplanken soldaat waren gemaakt werd men aan tafel geplaatst, waar lichting ’22 eindelijk de confrontatie aan moest gaan met een interne tweedeling. Helaas resulteerde dit niet in een strijd tussen tafeltje één en tafeltje twee, gezien iedereen gebroederlijk aan één tafel zat. In de plaats daarvan heeft familie Ploert een strijd met onze spijsverteringsstelsels gefaciliteerd, middels wat voelde als eindeloze gangen aan culinair genot: schelpen, burgers waar je “UUUU” “u” tegen zegt, spiesjes, tiramisu, et cetera. 

Al snel beet Wybe het spits af en richtte een slideshow speech tot de heren, wat de nodige emoties teweegbracht bij onze gastheer. Op dit inkijkje in Thijmens jeugd volgden de twee Ivo’s met speeches over de bizarriteiten waar het tuig van Terheijden zoal mee te kampen heeft. Ook werd een kippenvelmomentje verzorgd doordat Ivo voor onverklaarbare redenen ons lustrumnummer van vier jaar geleden op de piano kon spelen. De lichting had een interessante nieuwe aanpak voor hun eigen voordracht: meer gejank en minder gebrul. Dat wil zeggen; zes speeches en zes liederen, waarvan de spraakopnames sfeerbepalend bleken tijdens de TOP week. 

Na de speeches realiseer je je dat je in het midden van nergens zit wanneer Sabrina een gang moet overslaan zodat we op tijd de bus kunnen halen naar het uitgaanscentrum. Desalniettemin is de kroeg in Breda lit, evenals het casino ertegenover. Na een kapitaalinjectie in de lokale economie en een plundering van verscheidene shoarmazaken besloot men de avond af te sluiten. 

Slaapplekken vinden verliep echter moeizaam. Middels enkele akelige versierpogingen weet Moes zich naar de zolderkamer te manoeuvreren, terwijl Moffel daarentegen de badkuip als een betere slaapplek beschouwde. Na een omkoopsom verscheen op de rekening een geslaagde poging tot gaslighting van Moffel, hielden de heren het voor gezien. Familie Adriaansen, bedankt! 

“Het is neuken of geneukt worden.” 

Zoals Opgezwolle in hun hitsingle uit 2003 al zong: we gaan naar het verre oosten! Logischerwijs rijst dan de vraag wat een club in zwart-wit gehulde zuiderlingen en één kalende local daar te zoeken hebben. Het antwoord: mister Moneyman van de T.H.D. heeft zijn aandelenportefeuille enigszins doen slinken om wat kapitaal vrij te maken voor het op dat moment al meest enerverende 21 diner van 2024. Naast het kapitaal van dhr. Stift zelf scheen per slot van rekening ook de deurenbusiness van vadertje Es flink in de lift te zitten, wat betekende dat er moest worden afgereisd naar het verre Gaanderen om beugels te poppen in de door Stift zelfbenoemde Playboy Mansion van het Oosten. Plezier gegarandeerd! 

Waar de meesten uitkeken naar de gezelligheid, het lekkere eten en bovenal de beugels Grolsch, vroeg een enkeling zich vooral af in wat voor (al dan niet te strakke) jurk de oudste telg van de familie Es zich gehesen zou hebben. Eenmaal op locatie aangekomen werd Willem zodoende “goed gezet” en was de tuin omgebouwd tot een Michelintent avant la lettre. In de hoek hadden zich enkele verdwaalde Gringo’s verzameld die de genodigden van planken vol lekkernijen wisten te voorzien. Allemaal leuk en aardig natuurlijk, maar waar het de PIOT’ers heren aan “tafeltje 1” voornamelijk om te doen was, was uiteraard de vulling van de koelkast. Terwijl Brum en Ploert dit schouwspel met leden ogen aankeken en snel nog een extra partijtje wijn voor hun eigen diner bijbestelden, was de wijsheid inmiddels dan ook wel in de kan. 

Omdat Peije het liefst had dat zijn ouders zo min mogelijk over zijn Braque tijd te horen kregen, had hij voorzorgsmaatregelen getroffen door de speeches van de Praeses en de lichting helemaal aan het einde van het diner te doen, in de hoop dat Brum en Klink dan nog net een tikkeltje onverstaanbaarder (en langzamer) brabbelden dan voor hen gebruikelijk is. Zijn vader daarentegen begon met een mooie doch beladen speech over Stifts kindertijd, maar over kinderschoentjes van Louboutin werd tot ontsteltenis van de aanwezigen geen woord gerept. 

Nadat iedereen voorzien was van de eerste gang was het de beurt aan FC Knudde VVG’25 Zaal 1. De aanvoerder richtte een speech tot de leden, waarvan de huidige Praeses enkel maar kon dromen, maar gelukkig voor hem had Stifts plan gewerkt. 

Toen Braque aan de beurt was om te speechen was het niveau namelijk al op dergelijke wijze gekelderd, dat Moffel op het punt stond om zijn mollentaakje te gaan vervullen om het nog ergens op te duikelen. Zodoende prevelde Klink wat ongemakkelijke zinnen over een ‘work hard play hard’ mentaliteit, tegenover een man die zich de afgelopen maanden bijna 24/7 in de UB heeft begeven.  

Tot slot de liederen nog, en ondanks dat de eeuwige klooien van ’21 met een liedje van Roxy Dekker hoopten makkelijk te kunnen scoren, zou Braque Braque niet zijn als niet het meest ordinaire nummer de avond zou tekenen. Maar goed, credit where credit’s due: liedjes over het al dan niet actief zijn van lil’ Stift, dan wel Stifts tong kunnen bij voorbaat al wachten op het predikaat ‘banger’. 

En zo schudden we de tent uit om na het diner de weg te vervolgen naar DTC. Na een korte treintocht en enigszins toeristische wandelroute bevond men zich ineens in dé uitgaansstraat van Doetinchem. Helaas werd het plan om naar de ziekste toko te gaan verijdeld door Rintje en Moto die midden op straat een open sollicitatie voor de UFC tentoonstelden.  

Desondanks is er tot in de late uurtjes gefeest in de overige kroegen die op kruipafstand lagen. Na koortsachtige zoektochten naar taxi’s, besloot Rintje eenmaal terug in Gaanderen om nog even de Grote Rintje Show op te voeren en gehuld in ‘de nieuwe kleren van de keizer’ op straat te gaan liggen, waarna hij op de valreep van een agressieve smurf nog een paar tikken kreeg, omdat hij smurfin voor dame van lichte zeden had uitgemaakt. 

Ach, eind goed al goed en na een nachtje vertoeven op leeggelopen matjes kon men met hun ziel onder de armen de aftocht blazen terug naar het zuiden. Stift en de familie Es enorm bedankt! 

“Hij beft ze wel, ze pijpt hem niet!”

Hoewel Plato binnen de T.H.D. recent voornamelijk in een negatief daglicht wordt gezet door het huidige Heldenbestuur, organiseert zij ook een elitair weekend waarvan het doel is om van de ene prachtige plek naar de andere te zeilen. Daarom stappen de Helden op vrijdagmiddag in een krappe motorboot, om de komende dagen door eindeloze regen van het ene naar het andere verlaten gehucht te tuffen.  

Dit alles werd voorafgegaan door een reis in compacte auto’s volgepropt met niet alleen zwaargewichtige Braquers, maar ook met bagage, tenten, en een eerlijke verdeling Gigjes. Eenmaal de meedogenloze regen op de weg getrotseerd, kreeg iedereen zin om eindelijk de waterwegen van Friesland onveilig te maken. Het goede humeur verdween echter bij Strüdel toen hij zich realiseerde dat hij drie dagen lang jarig zou zijn, en bij Quen toen hij na drie keer afvaren realiseerde dat de lijnen nog vastzaten. 

Soit, de Helden waren te water en weldra werden de eerste piswedstrijden gehouden op het achterdek.  Zo werd de bemanning overweldigd door de regelmaat waarmee Pørko en Rintje men hun geslachtsdeel tentoonstelde. Verder besloten enkele Helden na enige huivering wegens de weeromstandigheden om te trainen voor de aanstaande triatlon middels een duik in het strontkleurige blauwalgwater verfrissende meer. 

Viel er even een stilte dan klonk het al snel “ouwe hogrider” of “sí maatje, ik loev het” door de boot. Nu Moes ouderejaars is en zijn stempel kan drukken is Braque nu eenmaal zo verworden; een aaneenrijging van onoriginele uitspraken. Ondanks dit cynisme is hij ditmaal de bootsleutels niet kwijtgeraakt in zijn broekzak. Wellicht is dit ook te danken aan kapitein Strüdel Quen, wie autocratie over het roer behield gedurende het weekend.  

Ook te danken aan de kapitein is het onzorgvuldig aanleggen waardoor het besturingssysteem het begaf. Zo ziet u maar weer dat hoge bomen veel wind vangen. Zo bezien is het opmerkelijk dat Moes veel wind vangt. Enfin, een arbeider kwam met gepaste spoed de boot repareren, en met evenzo gepaste klasse onderwierpen de eloquente Helden de beste man aan een gesprek over anussen, piemels, tieten, u kent het wel. 

Later diezelfde dag ging het gezelschap naar een restaurant waar wederom bleek dat we leiden aan een laagconjunctuur. Wanneer Strüdel bij het zien van een wandelende neus zegt dat hij verliefd is en Rintje – wie zegt dat hij niet van one night stands houdt en daarom niet met vrouwen hoeft te praten – tegen de serveerster gaat vertellen over zijn cryptoavonturen, weet u dat er stront aan de knikker zit. 

Na twee nachten onthouden te zijn van basiscomfort herhaalde het circus zich een laatste dag, echter nu zonder alcohol, en de plezierpotentie dat inherent toch al beperkt was, werd zodoende gelimiteerd tot een nieuwgevonden minimum. Had ik al gezegd dat het regende? Wegens dit ongekende succes doen we het volgend jaar weer.

Met het einde van het collegejaar in zicht, brak eindelijk een tijd aan waar zowel de hardwerkende  studenten als het uitgeputte bestuur reikhalzend naar uitkeek: de zomervakantie! Voordat het zover was, wachtte de helden nog een van de meest beruchte avonden van het jaar: de Wisselvergadering. 

Voordat de Praeses voor de laatste keer de vergadering kon openen was het eerste slachtoffer al ‘letterlijk’ gevallen. Na een sprint met een tafel, waar Churandy Martina trots op zou zijn, ging Tût als een stervende zwaan ten onder, met een enkeltje TweeSteden ziekenhuis als gevolg.  

Ook dit jaar was de stemcommissie niet te beroerd om de kandidaat-bestuursleden te voorzien van ingenieuze  opdrachten, om te onderzoeken of zij deze nobele functies in adequaatheid kunnen bekleden. De opdrachten werden met wisselend succes, maar bovenal met een summum van enthousiasme gepresenteerd.  

De uitkomst van de stemming liet nog even op zich wachtten omdat Rintje pardoes was verdwenen. Na een huiverige inspectie door Grind bleek Rintje een kruistocht ‘avant la lettre’ door de gangen van de sociëteit te hebben gelopen en een mooi plekje op de grond te hebben gevonden als rustplaats. Enfin, na de uitkomst van de stemming, die na een Heldiale remise, opnieuw gehouden moest worden, werden de namen van bestuur XXXV onthuld:
